NOLABRC ART GRANT

Below, please find the Letter of Intent (LOI) form to be submitted for a project to be considered for the NOLABRC Art Grant for Engulf 2019.

Before applying, If you choose to apply, we recommend that you compose and edit your responses to the questions in a text editing application (such as Word or Google Docs) and then paste your responses into the online submission system. If you are accessing this preview through Google Docs, please make a copy of this file so that you can compose your responses.

Please be aware that you will need to purchase a ticket to Engulf. For 2019 everyone is expected to purchase a ticket.

The theme for Engulf this year is “Mythical Menagerie”. Your art piece does not need to address this theme but if it does please state so below.

Your art piece will be expected to be completed and installed by midnight of the first day of Engulf.

You will be expected to register your art with Engulf. This can be done through the Engulf website here. Engulf has a list of art guidelines on their website to follow.

The first deadline for submitting this LOI for an art grant for the Engulf burn is August 25th. Results for the first deadline will be announced on Burn Night, August 31st. Please try and make the first deadline if you can. The second deadline, for those of you returning from the big Burn totally inspired, will be September 15th.

Receiving an art grant from NOLABRC does NOT disqualify you from obtaining grants and other forms of income for this project from other sources.

    Please list your Profile information below. We will be contacting you via the email address listed here, so make sure it’s the preferred address for us to reach you. It’s also useful for us to know about your past contributions and years attending Burning Man and other Regionals, so update those if necessary. Having attended a previous burn, either at Black Rock City or another Regional, is NOT a prerequisite for obtaining an art grant from NOLABRC.
  • Describe your Burning Man projects and affiliations. Previous Burning Man experience is not a prerequisite for this grant.
  • Please fill out the name and contact info for the person submitting this Letter of Intent. This person will be the primary person that we contact regarding this application. If the lead artist is different from the primary contact, please enter the name of the lead artist here. If your project is a joint collaboration, please provide the contact information for both artists. If you project involves more than two leads, please designate one person to be the contact person for the purposes of this art grant.

  • The mission of Burning Man Arts is to change the paradigm of art from a commodified object to an interactive, participatory, shared experience of creative expression. NOLABRC wants to uphold and honor this mission so please tell us:

    How does this art installation fit that mission? How will people interact with your art?

    Please use this as an opportunity to discuss how your project supports this mission and encourages participation.
  • What are you hoping to express with the manifestation of your installation? What does the art mean to you and what do you hope to communicate to participants?
  • What is the total projected cost of the project described in this application? Don’t forget transportation costs. We understand this is an anticipated cost and the amount may slightly change at the stage of submitting a full proposal.

  • What is the total amount of the grant you are requesting? You are not guaranteed to receive the full amount, but please let us know how much you think you will need. If you do not receive the full amount, what is your plan for funding the rest of the project if applicable? Please include detailed information for the anticipated costs of materials, transportation, fuel, etc.?

  • Please list the name, phone number and/or email address of 2 references. These references should know your work
  • You must submit at least one image of your concept. This can be a photo, rendering, drawing, etc. and should give us a good idea of what you’re proposing. You may email us up to three images. Please upload your best image first as the Primary Image. Make sure to include the name of your project (no spaces) in the filename of the image.
